Before you start pre-fishing for the Cabela's MWC/NTC Devils Lake tournament, you must get inspected for Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) or it will result in a DISQUALIFICATION for the tournament.
There is a ANS Inspection site set up at the Cenex West Station right at the intersection of Hwy 2 and Cty. Rd 19 on the west edge of Devils Lake. The inspection only takes a few minutes to prevent a serious problem all anglers should be concerned about. The community of Devils Lake, ND is welcoming the Cabela's MWC and NTC into their city and we should respect their town by going through the proper cleaning techniques for ANS. ALL ANGLERS must go through the inspection at Cenex West and receive a certification sticker verifying that you have cleaned your boat thoroughly before putting it into Devils Lake. To reach the Cenex West Station, call: 701-662-4014. Please see letter from local North Dakota DNR official Lynn Schlueter: ******************************************************************************************** LR Schlueter, ANS Coordinator North Dakota Game and Fish Department ANS is a problem Aquatic Nuisance Species is not just another problem, it is the biggest problem facing anglers, hunters, boaters, and everyone today. The fact that ANS has not gotten into your favorite waterbody does not make it less of a problem for you. When ANS is in place it cannot be easily removed or prevented from spreading. As most ANS looks like it is harmless – that little mussel on the boat hull, a bit of water left in the livewell or bilge, a bit of green plant material on the motor, or unused fish bait at the end of the trip; we do not worry until it is too late. ANS damage occurs in habitat modification and reallocation of energy at the lower trophic levels. In simple terms – the lake becomes a pig-hole and won’t raise a lot of anything you want to catch. ANS problems will go beyond fishing or hunting, think of the water intakes and cooling towers plugged by zebra mussels and of us (anyone buying electricity) paying to clean the problem out every couple of years. ANS can be easily prevented by not allowing it to be moved. It is simple, effective, and is the law in many states and is now the law in North Dakota. So do this: 1) Clean a) Inspect the boat, motor, trailer, equipment, and other things that have been in the water for plant fragments, shells, mud, or other FOs b) Remove plants, mud, FOs by hand picking, using a kid rake, or with a pressure washer to clean off the hull and motor, flushing plant fragments out of the boat, etc 2) Drain a) Livewell and bilge b) Dispose of the surplus bait in a proper receptacle or bury it 3) Dry a) Air drying will eliminate most problems b) Disinfect with hot water (greater than 120 degree) or a 1:20 solution of bleach to water It takes a few minutes of our time to prevent ANS movement. It is our responsibility to prevent ANS so we can continue to enjoy fishing, hunting, boating, and just being outside. Magic, in the original post the number for the Cenex station is posted. 701-662-4014.
I did call and their hours will typically be from 7am to 5pm. Please be nice as they are doing this all on a voluntary basis. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Chad Maloy, |
