My self and my partner have fished the Detroit River event the past three seasons and really enjoy the compitition and sportsmanship of the MWC field.
We had a motor problem about ten miles out in the lake Sunday on our return run. The motor went at about 2:30 and the first boat by stopped to give us a hand. They did everything possible to try and get us towed in behind their boat and make the weigh-in. Once we realized that it would not get us back in time for the weigh-in we told them to cut us loose and at least get their basket weighed in. They would not hear of that. They even let their fish go and emptied the live well to increase speed in an effort to get our basket weighed in. (This allowed the boat to to get on plane.) There was just to much water to cover and not enough time to make the weigh-in in time. So we slowed down a little and safely arrived back to Elizabeth Park. Well for such a dissappointing way to end the tournament something good has come from this. My partner and I met two great sportsmen that I hope to keep in touch with in the years to come. My partner and I would like to extend a great big thank you to team number 29 Vince Raimondi, and Doug Larson for going WAY out of their way in helping us. It is anglers like you that make the MWC the great tournament trail that it is. They would not accept anything for their help, all they asked is that we do the same for the next boat that needs help. You can be sure that we will! Once again Thank you Vince and Doug for all of your help. Best regards Team #72 Ted Stehney & Les Burley |
